Beautiful View

I stood in the open doorway
Admiring the beautiful view
And decided to leave the windows
Boarded up for one more night
To enjoy the stillness of the lake
Always so peaceful at sunset and
Already calming the turmoil inside
My weary heart; But as I surveyed
The darkened forest all around me
The isolated cabin no longer seemed
Like the ideal vacation setting, given
My present circumstances
The poetic justice of its solitude
Too glaringly obvious as I looked back
Into the empty room behind me
Knowing that on my next holiday
I’d be heading for a busy city
Somewhere
